The Abyssinian is one of the sweetest and friendliest guinea pig breeds, making them a good family pet; however, younger children may find Abyssinians to be overly energetic and boisterous at times. However, given their sociability, there is no denying their popularity. Although the Abyssinian is sometimes considered the nicest breed, there are several others that are equally sociable, easy to handle, and make excellent companions.

Since guinea pigs are naturally social creatures, most of them enjoy spending time and being handled by their owners. When one lacks experience or a positive handling experience, exceptions may occur. In all circumstances, you should take things slowly, but you should exercise extra patience if the newly adopted guinea pig has never interacted with people or, even worse, has been harmed by them in the past.
Since guinea pigs are not typically aggressive, any bites are normally justified, just as it would be with any other type of pet.
